I recommends taking it to someone that knows exactly what they are doing. Sending it to microsoft can take forever. I've been hearing more and more people having this problem. Get someone to fix the solder and add better cooling and you should be good to go! That would probably be me:)
why would you need to remove the startup files? you can go to search and search exactly what your looking for. You can also go to the hard drive then under WINDOWS and delete files that way but I don't recommend messing around with that directory
I have a 200GB hard drive I use on my laptop all of the time and it works great. But then again a 500 GB may be to much for your laptop to handle or it's a hardware problem. Make sure you always check the manufacturers website and that should help a bit. What are the specs on your laptop?
Just check out newegg if you already haven't. They should have some great deals on everything your looking for. Also check reviews and that should tell you a bit about what brands are the best for memory, power supply etc. Do some extensive research that should help you build a better computer.

yeah superdave knows what he is talking about. Just delete anything that says mcafee in the system. Check program folders, files, registry for any trace. After reboot and it should all be deleted! Then you can install norton:)
