I've isolated the problem and what I consider the virus. It appears as KSoD says to be normal windows operation but on the 19th (a day before I came in here to post) is when I picked this thing up. What it seems to do is duplicate normal operations until system is nearly impossible to use...

computer maintenance is kind of like putting gas in a car... it has to be done as much as it is used. educate her. As far as the version of AVG, I like to use the latest versions. maybe uninstall and reinstall latest version. Any file sharing sites can have who knows what, et. music and movie...

for gaming, I agree. the cost of a laptop to match the speed is outrageous. Lexluethar made a good point too about the repair.

did you uncheck all your start-up features as Osiris asked? and restart?

what kind of computer do you have? and what do you have starting up in msconfig>start-up? Osiris may want you to go through tech-forums spyware guide. Have you done the basics? - defrag, clean temp files, history, etc.? What OS are you using? When you did your updates, did it install service...

It might boil down to what can be put together the cheapest, at the time of the purchase. Combo deals etc... those 4 cpu's are close in speed. Other members may be able to share which one's OC better.
