I graduate from WGU in a couple months with a degree in IT- Network Security and would highly recommend it! I suggest you take the A+ instead because it is a lot easier than the CCNA. I only just recently obtained the CCNA and can tell you that if I didn't take the Net+, A+, and Sec+ before it...
That's what thought. I currently hold a position as an IT technician and have held it for about a year and a half. I was also an IT intern for 6 months and before that I was a web room aid in college for 6 months. Would that be considered as experience when applying for a sec position? I'm...
Interesting. So what kind of job is entry level security, and what does it entail? I remember asking in a post some months ago. But I don't remember getting deep into what exactly happens day to day in a security job.
thanks for the reply! that's good to hear. I'll just read a python book and some scripting stuff just to get background. But I'm glad I do t have to get too into it.
Ah, I see. I know networking and have a CCNA and I'm studying now for my CCNA Security. I was going to look into getting my CISSP after that, But am now considering taking 6 months to read some python books and learn the language.
what do you think?
Title says it all. I was doing some research and it looks like a lot of information sec jobs require knowledge of programming languages is this the norm?
300 hour internship might be worth it. From my experience Technical schools aren't really worth it. You can pick up a book and watch some videos online and learn the same things. For example, Mike Myers A+ book + Messer's video series is more than enough to pass the A+ and that would cost you...
Hey Krazy1,
I'm in a similar situation. I've been with this company for about a year now and at first it was great. But the more I learned the more I realized this wasn't for me. Too much downtime, and the IT Dept here is too involved in other business of the company (see how similar the...
Don't be afraid to make a little less for a while. Straight out of an associate's degree in IT and an A+ I accepted the job where i am at now. They gave me 28k with a promise of 30 in 6 months. In 4 months I was up to 38k.
Moral is: You never know.
Yes you can get a job. I live in philly and I can tell you there are plenty of jobs. With just an A+ I'd say you'd be making somewhere in between 35-40. (I currently make 38). Maybe less because of lack of experience.
My advice is to take anything just to get your foot in the door. Don't shy...
So in less than a year I'll be finished my Bachelor's Degree in IT with an emphasis in IT security. I have several industry certifications including A+, Net+, Sec+ and by the time I graduate I'll have a CCNA in Security.
Even with all that though I still feel like I want to move forward with...
I go to Western Governors University. They are completely online and extremely inexpensive. The best part about it is all the classes are pass/fail and tie into your certs. For example there is a class to obtain your A+ and to pass it you have take the actual exam. They even pay for the exam...
A+ is a lot of information. I mean a lot! But don't stress over it. You don't have to get every single question right to pass. Since the test is 2 exams I would take it one at a time. Worry about the 801 and don't get caught up in the 802 stuff. Watch Professor Messers Videos on Youtube, They go...
Hey everyone,
I'm starting to get into security and was wondering what sort of careers I could get with the right certs. I'm currently finishing my BS in IT with a security emphasis and expect to finish it within a year. By that time I would have been an IT Tech at my company for 2 years.
With...
