If not , then I suggest you back up everything you can , then do a complete format and reinstall. it will run better then it has in a long time I am sure.

I agree as well. with the age of the board it could very likely be bad.
one way to test is take out ALL ram and try a boot. if the speaker doesnt beep at you with a bios warning then it isnt running the POST test . ie bad board. that usually works

and you can partition it in different filesystems for different OS's as well. IE linux etc.
