Hi Osiris,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I have not seen anything suspicious since the "symptoms" that I mentioned at the top of my first post. Of course, I worry about the stuff that I cannot "see". :-)
I guess what bothers me most is that Spybot regularly runs on this machine and never...
Hi,
This computer has me worried. Spybot has not found anything in weeks (usually it finds at least cookies or something every day) which makes me suspicious that it is being blocked. Yesterday morning, I got a balloon notice on the Start button that a new program had been installed, but...
Hi,
I went to your page and opted for the full scan, which started with a download of combofix.exe. However, well into the download/install process I get an error message stating that I cannot rename the file to ComboFix[1].exe and an "OK" button that seems to abort the process. I searched my...
Just to be overly picky, please run either Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable when you do this. Cat 5 cable is obsolete. And, by the way, you will be much better off running cable than using wireless if speed is an issue for you.
I have not actually heard what speeds can be achieved with Ethernet over power lines, but I would look at their specs to see what they say. The power lines are not twisted pair wires, so it is unclear to me how fast data transmission can actually be without issues of crosstalk, etc.
One other...
You do not mention having tested the ethernet cable that you are using for the wired connection. It is very quick and simple to swap in a known working cable to be sure that this is not the problem. I have seen less than perfect crimps on cables to cause weird things to happen.
You need to tell us more about your set up. How are you getting to the Internet (cable modem, DSL, etc.) Also, how do you access the Internet with AOL? Is a router involved in the network? Beyond this, is this a new computer that has never connected to the Internet or is this a new problem...
Well, I have seen no demand, whatsoever, for Ethernet over power lines. I had an intercom system, maybe five-six years ago, and it was horrible and that was just analog voice, not a digital signal. One interesting thing that I discovered is that your house is not a complete network. What I...
Try re-setting the router (not just re-starting it). There should be a reset button on the router, itself. Worth trying first since it is fast and easy.
