Listen to the beeps POST gives after you power on. Anything more than 1 beep look it up on the net via your laptop manufactures website.
Try looking into the video driver you are installing to check its fully compatible with your system, also checking everything about your video card is in top notch working order. (Power, necessary airflow, etc.)
