You can try Macrium Reflect Free. It can be run in Windows so no need for rebooting. Used it yesterday to clone a Laptop HDD.

Tried both? If you did try backing up your files on your previous machine and the HDD isn't reading on that machine, then most likely it has to be reformatted.
