New system build for 2021 - $2k budget

Good point, thanks. Mine was in July, we went forward with it, I have a large century house so we segregated the guys by "bubbles" we were already in. My buddies and I in one room, my brothers and their friends in the basement and the other group of local guys in the dining room (13 guys...

New system build for 2021 - $2k budget

Nope, simplest database you'll see! Sounds good, I'll keep my eyes open for RAM deals over black friday. If I don't see anything, maybe boxing day. I go ta bit lucky in that area, my kids really only play minecraft, roblox and rocket league. Nothing too demanding. Sounds good, I'm...

New system build for 2021 - $2k budget

If I don't need to max it out then great...but I have $2000 put aside, so no issue using it. I don't sell/build often so I don't mind putting in full budget. I have no clue....I'm not the IT or programmer, I'm the subject matter expert (legal compliance) but I help with the uploading and...

New system build for 2021 - $2k budget

Hey guys, long since out of the building game so I'm kidding myself if I think I can maximize my build on my own knowledge. I'm looking for a build to do in February/March of 2021, no hurry as I keep my eyes open for high end parts in various auctions and other sites I frequent. I recognize...

    Upgrading for quad monitor setup

Thanks, was sort of what I was thinking. As for the mobo/cpu combo, no idea. It's how I first built the system, I did send it in on a recall back when it was first released. Since then it's been running like a tank. Love this setup, no complaints at all.

    Upgrading for quad monitor setup

Hey guys, so I'm trying to stretch some life out of my old rig. It's a 2600k in an asus p8p67 deluxe with 16gb ram. I was hoping to build a new rig this year but budget issues have held that off. So instead I'm looking for upgrades that will efficiently run 4 monitors (previously was 2). So...

Help with networking setup - 2 buildings

Good catch, yeah, the diagram is off on those two labels. The LAN is just close friends so I have no concerns about security. The only areas I would be worried would be the tenant and their friends as I can't control who is accessing through them.

Help with networking setup - 2 buildings

Ok, so what about if I want to add a POE security camera system down the road? 4-6 cameras? Is my logic sound? - Keep my current router - Upgrade my main switch to a 24 port POE switch - Keep the 24 port LAN switch as is - Add a smaller POE switch in the garage, 16 ports Most of the cameras...

Help with networking setup - 2 buildings

wow, I haven't posted in years and you two are probably the two guys I remember best! Good to see you both still solving everyone's issues! Ok....so remember to use small words, I don't play much with networks at all! In fact I don't think I've touched my setup in a couple of years. POEs are...

Help with networking setup - 2 buildings

So we have started renos on the apartment over our garage, the up side is I get to gut the workshop underneath (part of the garage) and turn it into my man cave. The challenge is networking. The house and garage are separated by about 20 feet (driveway), with about 60 feet between the shop and...

    BSOD on memory upgrade

So I have an older HW8540w I picked up off for a decent price. It only had 1GB of memory and the HDD was removed. I promptly installed a SSD and installed windows 7 (legit copy). Everything was going smoothly. Then it went downhill: 1) I pulled the 1 GB memory stick and installed an 8gb...

Getting the network to the garage

Man, all these old names brings back memories when I had so much more time to post on these boards. Back when I was helpful instead of needy! I still have custom case mods I started years ago on this forum that are sitting incomplete! It's not a huge issue to pull up as line in the driveway...

Getting the network to the garage

Dauntae, sounds like we're in pretty much the same spot. I have the Cat5e leftover to do it an am pretty sure I have the pvc as well....just hate digging up the driveway. However, I'd rather do it right the first time than have to re-do it next year. Right now I'm close enough that I can get...

    HP elitebook 8560w 8GB or 16GB?

Thanks guys, yeah the database management isn't that complicated or resource demanding. It's not your typical "database" and isn't worth breaking down in detail to better analyze needs. Really the most demanding component of it is that to efficiently run it I need 3 monitors up in order to...

    HP elitebook 8560w 8GB or 16GB?

So long story short I ended up getting an elitebook 8560w this week and it needs ram. Just wondering if I should get 8gb or 16gb. This is a do-everything-I-need-you-to-do laptop. I was shopping for a gaming rig but life intervened and now I need it to be a work machine I can use to...
