If you are going to buy a 120gb hdd and upgrade make sure it's a BEV drive, it will have it in the model number. Then there is a special file called hdds.bin that you have load to the hdd but all in all, there are risks of getting banned on live because it's not a licensed hdd.

I don't know any programs off hand ATM but for now I would say backup your disc if you have a spare hdd or external source. Then if it does fail you will still have your data.
