Overclocking my AMD Athlon II x4 640

I have almost the exact same setup as you. I'm running a X4 635 with an Asus M4A78LT-M. I'd say 65C is the max you wanna go with this chip. I have mine at 3.6Ghz stable. If you have a good cpu cooler you could gain more. With these Athlon II chips, it's best to keep the HT Link speed between...

    Video games in the future?

I think the whole 3D gaming thing will be coming up on the next consoles. And probably more interaction towards games like the Wii did.

    You know it's Monday when...

You know it's Monday when someone says, "Sounds like a case of the Mondays." Then I just want to tackle that person at full speed. Funny thing is, someone already said it to me this morning on the elevator, grrrrrrrr.

My friend needs a cheap home computer

P43 doesn't have onboard video. Edit: Oh snap, missed the revised build.

    need some quick advice

Yea, there is nothing wrong in getting a quad core for a general computer with his needs. I just listed the best bang for your buck. It will be more future proof and he'll be happy with it.

4Gb of ram should be plenty. Anything more than that isn't necessary, unless he does serious 3D video or photo editing.

    need some quick advice

The thread you're showing doesn't offer help at all. That's a gaming build, and not including a monitor. Here is a pretty solid build: Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more! Good motherboard with nice onboard graphics. Newegg.com - Transcend...

please build for me (1k$ limit)

I think the 4890 is a good choice. In some cases it competes or beats the GTX 285 in certain games. Plus it overclocks very well and runs cooler compared to the old 4870 1Gb.

    rate my computer build

Agreed, all you have to do is touch something metal and you'll be safe. Hahaha, man that Bulldozer case is hideous. And you're right Pinscher, there are no hard drive cages? Where do you put your hard drives and such? Please don't get that case.

    rate my computer build

I think G Skill and OCZ are great brands for ram. I swear by them.

The current Ballistix are rubbish now. The older ones like you were talking about, were good.

Cheap quality amd 780g am2+ board?

An E5200 will reach higher overclocks. If your friend is into overclocking, I'd get that with a P45 motherboard for around $100 or so. Here are some good 780g boards to consider: Newegg.com - ASUS M3A78-EM AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards Newegg.com -...
