get http://fedora.redhat.com/ easy install if you want ot get familiar with linucx you can get http://www.knoppix.org/ you can burn to a cd and bot from it then see if you want to move to linux, it s free and painless

have you tried hooking up the usb cdrom and booting the recovery cd from it
