This is for my elderly Dad's computer. He's very computer-un-savvy so I need to automate things. And we live in different countries so after this week he's on his own for the most part. I see some mention of Bitdefender as well. Is that necessary or Windows Defender is good enough?

hi guys, i've done some of the recommendations given here. one thing i'm wondering about, if i have windows defender do i need another virus scanner or not? some here have said to just have that, some seem to be suggesting other ones. in other sources i'm also seeing different things.

is not a fair question to ask which benchmarking website is good for comparisons, and what's the single metric one should use on there?

I'm not at all knowledgeable on how to read chip / processor speeds. I'm not even sure if the term is chip or processor haha. So when looking for a new computer I need a site that can compare these speeds. The two I'm aware of are https://cpu.userbenchmark.com and https://www.cpubenchmark.net/...

It's one thing to compare chip speeds. But I dont know if an i3-xyz with 12 GB RAM is better or an i5-xyz with 6 GB for example. I bought a computer a few years ago and it ended up being slower than a computer I bought *SIX YEARS* before that, so obviously I need to make some sense of the specs...
