First off, you do realize that your computer is never ever going to use more than 600 watts, right? The other 600 watts you have is just sitting there doing nothing. Its sort of like buying a BluRay disk and burning something that could fit on a DVD.
But anyways, it sounds like a driver issue...
The easiest way (and most effective) would be to just take any ordinary laptop and pack it into the briefcase. You don't necessarily need to dismantle the laptop though. Heck, you could even get a netbook for like $200. Drill holes behind the screen for all of the external peripherals.

You can always buy a bigger battery later on. I always hated the battery life on my Palm Pre, but just recently I bought a battery with more than twice the battery life of my previous battery for $60.
"With an interface thats 10x faster than previous-generation"
SWEET!! So that means that if I make my mouse use USB 3.0.. my mouse will magically perform better!!!
Yeah after that last fiasco where Nvidia showed fake cards, I seriously hope they've learned their lesson. I honestly don't know what to think of these new cards. Sounds a lot like the GTX 280 when it was released. Huge, pricey and risky. But in the end it seemed to work out well for them...
Lookin' good... Personally I'm not a big fan of hyperthreading. Takes up a ton of more power and in most cases it doesn't improve performance by much.
Do you plan to overclock? If so I'd recommend getting a good heatsink for $40 or so.
I've got my i5 at 4ghz running 65C on load using the Scythe...
They aren't worth it. I work at Best Buy and trust me. Most of the opinions people have about LED's looking drop-dead amazing are purely due to the mighty power of the placebo. There's no debate about them being superior. But twice the price superior? Yeah right...
Most of them are edge-lit...
Yeah the expensive i7's are a joke. Especially when you can easily overclock the others to reach the same clockspeed. Buying 12GB of ram is the most wasteful thing you could do at the moment. Not a single game uses 4gb let alone 6gb. I know you've been a long time Nvidia fan, but you shouldn't...
