Notepad+ for all Windows OSes
What it is:
NotePad+ is a fully 32-bit replacement for the standard Windows 95/98/2000/ME/XP/NT Notepad. It has many improvements over standard Notepad, and it's completely free!

Windows 2000 Fixes:

Windows XP Fixes:
Follow the Windows 2000 Fix, but instead of C:\WINNT\System32\dllcache it is C:\Windows\System32\dllcache

Another good replacement is EditPad from JG Software.
The Pro version you have to buy, but the Classic version is free.
