Need some clarification...

Im comparing motherboards on Newegg and I see that the memory standard for these MBs are listed as follows:

ASRock X58 Extreme: DDR3 2000(OC)/1866(OC)/1600(OC)/1333 (OC)/1066
ASRock X58 Deluxe: DDR3 2000(OC)/1600(OC)/1333

My question is: What does the (OC) mean?

OC = overclock

it means that the particular mobo supports OCed ram at those speeds. you will have to go into the bios and adjust the ram speed and timings accordingly though.

OC means overclocked. The i7 has a stock bclk of 133mhz X 20 for 2,66Ghz.

the stock mem multi on that board is x10 or 1333. To get any other speeds you need to change the mem multi or change your bclk. Generally you need to change the memory voltage to 1.65 as well.

OK. So the (OC) just means that it is capable of overclocking that speed of RAM, but it is not necesarry to do so in order for that speed of memory to work?

FYI, Ive never overclocked a computer before, and dont really plan on starting to do so.

But with an i7 hitting 3.2 is like stealing candy from a baby. No need to change vcore. Just bump bclk to 160 (for ddr3 1600 160x10) from 133, then make sure your ram is set to it's stock voltage and timings.
