Default Adding modem to new computer

I just bought a new desktop computer with an Intel D101GGC board and P4 2.8G processor. WinXP SP2. In the shop I was told not to put in a dialup modem because it will cause problems, but I need the modem to send faxes.

I have the modem from my previous computer a V90 Creative DI5655. I found the XP drivers on the Creative site.

Will the modem really be likely to cause problems with the computer and is there really any reason that I should not install it?

Thanks.

There shouldn't be.

The only problem might be if the modem tries to use a port that is used by something else. But that can fixed very easily.

Thanks. I will let you know. Should there be a port conflict, how do I find a free port?
