My router continuously starts getting crap transmission speeds. I'll be just fine all day then blam, 120mbps drops to 5mbps. The receiving rates stay high, 70 ish.

Wireds just fine and all is backed by speedtest.

Is my router dying?

It's a 2yr old asus rt-n16 running dd-wrt.

I can't tell if it's hot.

My room is ~26C and the routers not really obstructed.

Like right now, everything is back, 140Mbps, with speedtest hitting 39 down 5 up on both wired and wireless.

Guess I'll try moving it for better airflow.

That's hotter than my place normally and my router is behind our TV with airflow directly from a ceiling fan and it gets hot with good usage. If 30/30/30 helped then I wouldn't worry about it.
