Default Port forwarding and IE

Hi All,

I use a software application which requires me to forward data from my router port 443 to my computer's IP address. The application contains a payment wizard so therefore uses HTTPS.

Why does this piece of software require special treatment.... when Internet Explorer communicates across my router without issue... eg, secure payments on amazon, my online bank etc?

Thanks.

.... but IE/Firefox/Netscape all access ActiveX controls, and do not need special treatment to communicate over port 443. I wonder what is different about this app that requies port forwarding....?
