Default Overclocking Limits? Why?

Well I've got a pretty old and useless AMD 64 4000+ Socket 939 2400 mhz proccesor that I've been experimenting overclocking with, and I can get up to around 2800 mhz with a stable run... why won't it go any higher? when I start up at a higher FSB speed or multiplier it just resets to 2000 mhz on the post screen, the temperature levels are nearly the same with 2400 or 2800 and nowhere near terminal temperature

Welcome to Tech-Forums!

One reason could be that your system has became unstable. While overclocking, were you running any CPU stress test such as Prime95 or Orthos?

Yeah, you need to see if your system is stable at it's speed before going further.
