I am going to buy "for my daughter" a PS2.

Can any one tell me are play station 1 controllers compatable with PS2?

yes, playstation one controllers are 100% fully compatible with PS2's

as for
RTS: i recommend: Risk
Stragety: i recommend: Risk
Racing: i recommend: Gran Turismo 2
Fun: i recommend: Sim Theme Park

well the controllers are semi compatible. The new ps2 controllers have an r3 and l3 button access by pushing down on the analog sticks. i had this problem where my old ps1 controllers wouldnt work with some games. Just an fyi (dynasty warriors 4 is a good example of this)

Also, the PS2 Controllers' buttons are pressure sensetive. For example in GTA Vice City....press half way down on the button, accelerate moderately, press button all the way down, accelerate faster. Also some games require the analog joysticks (back in the day there were controllers without analog sticks!)
