does anyone know how to do color separations in QuarkXPress?

I'm supposed to print out some color separations for a school project, but the check box for color separations is grayed out; could this be because I don't have a Post Script Printer?

No - I've never used that program...

One thing to check is whether or not your image is CMYK rather than RGB (or other modes) - that may be why the check box for color separations is grayed out.

Failing that - check the help files within Quark - I would imagine there is some sort of "tutorial" on that feature. :)
