Hey,

Check out my site at www.generatordesigns.tk Im not advertising to do web design or anything but just to host some of my work. Its currently under construction and so there is a lack of info on it at the moment but tell me what you think of the design etc anyway.

Thanks

Posted by: ADZ

The page is blank. I suppose I cannot pick anything wrong with it if i cant see it.

Edit: The page took a LONG time to load. Looks nice.

Posted by: Retro

Are you on Broadband?

Posted by: ADZ

ADSL. Internet runs plenty fast. :D

*taps fingers*

*still tapping fingers*

Does take freakin' ages to load - was going to stop waiting at one point.
I have to agree with ADZ though - it does look nice but the time you have to wait is [b[very off putting.

Posted by: Retro

It seems to load fine on my machine within seconds and im on ADSL. Can anyone explain this?

Posted by:

Nope!

Well i'm in the UK too also running ADSL (at work), seconds...? Not here!

Is it hosted on your own server...?

Posted by: Retro

No im in the UK aswell. Ive got it registered on freewebs and set up a free domain at www.dot.tk which basically displays the page at my freewebs sub-domain.

Posted by: HardKore{Killa}

it doesn't have a lot of color i think u should have add some color and add some more content but apart from that i think it quite good

Posted by: cheerios

Well it loaded straight away from me but seriously I think the page is pretty weak. You might want to bold those gray text.

Posted by: Retro

I wanted to give it a modern look but I'll experiment with some of your suggestions. I'll post when the design is final.

Thanks

Posted by: Hackerman

i like the look, but there isnt muhc to look at. There is not enuf content and the site seemed rushed. U seemed too eager (like me, I always do that) to put your site out and show people. I did that and I got shitt reviews. I am now redesigning my flash site

which came out much better than the one i have as my site now

After making my flash site i was asked to create an HTML page as many people do not support flash yet, or as in your case, it takes long to load (this may also be because of your host), and content was sometimes not displayed well

so i made this

http://www.fnpsolutions.com/webtemp/htmlsite/index.htm

which is not yet finished but the bulk of the work is done.

I have learned a lot from my experience of creating sites. You have to be able to cater to all your customers, including those who are not on broadband. You also have to be able to have your website been seen by people who's computers cannot handle certain types of web content such as FLASH. Comapatability cannot not be an issue and neither can the looks of your site. You do not have to sacrafice fuctionality for fashion, or vice versa. You must find a quiet medium between both flash and HTML (and the plethora of other languages out there including PHP, CSS, and many others) and try to incorperate them into a site to make the site interesting, appealing, and compatable with various machines.

I decided to do 2 sites because i am not yet ready to merge the two (Flash and HTML), and I also am enjoying making both, and having the functions of each. Both have pro's and con's, but both are definitly viable mediums to use on the web.

In the end a websites success comes down to these things
-Functionality- does it serve a purpose? What is it for? Is it really needed? Do you answer the questions your are trying to answer? Does your site convey what you want it to? Does your site DO what you want it to do?

-Fashionality (I probabaly just made this word up) - How does it look? Is it appealing to the eye? Do people look at it and go "Wow" or do they go "Ehhhh"?

-Practicality - Is it practical? Does it do everything you need and want it too without going overboard? Does it take to long to load? Does it actually do anything or are you just putting it on the web to take up web space?

Ask yourself these questions and than see if your site does these. If they don't, than ask yourself how it can do these things, or can't do these things. Also ask yourself about the limitations of the program you are using, or scripting language you are using. If what you are using can't do something you are using, switch to another medium if it will affect the outcome of your site as a whole.

Remember, never limit yourself or restrict yourself. Think outside the box and never be afraid to try something new, remember, you can always change it back, ctrl - Z is only one click away.

Thanks alot I'll look into that.

Hackerman i can see you have a lot of ambition & talent. Hopefully it will last with you a few more years until you realize that life will crush every last ounce of hope, imagination, and determination you have left.

.......anyways enough with trying to cheer you up. if you want to improve your skills this is the wrong forum to be asking for critique. have you seen the movie called Big Fish? you are like a fish who is too big for your fishbowl. if you stay, you will not be able to realize your full potential.

you need to go someplace where people do not hesitate to say to your face if your work is just f*cking terrible or if it actually is good. eventually you will want to learn about 3D modelling & Flash. it will help you with your photoshop skills. try these forums & sites, they will help you improve your skills. save that webpage for future reference. those are most of the resources i've used:

Es/kien is right yet i think im pretty knowlageable in this area but im only 1 guy lol.
so http://www.webdevforums.com/index.php? is what you need, over there you get the best web designers from arround the globe to critique your stuff. And by the way i get a 404 error message at ur site
edit- Hackerman post a thread on those sites and i'll critique them for you, just dont wanna be hi jacking this guys thread;)

Posted by: Hackerman

Posted by: Fahim

well do any of you Know how to hack into somones email account
i think it is a tuff job to do..

hey hacker man do you really know hacing or no?

Posted by: anarchy

You've got to be kidding me. I'm sorry but that was the most pathetic way of hi-jacking this fine young man's thread.

1)People upstairs find out that Lar-Bears forums are giving info on hacking...NOT TOO HAPPY
2)If you really want to know if he is into hacking, which I doubt he is, just PM him....

Court ajourned.

Posted by: Hackerman

well i would firstlike to answer the question by saying NO I DO NOt HACk. I know some of how to, and some progs you can use, but i do not do it. Hacking in itself is just kind of stupid. When i do things on the computer, I want people to be able to see it and go "WOW". If i hacked and told everyone i did people would go "wow put that ****er in jail."

And too segway.... Thats why i like graphic design so much It gives me, and many many others a chance to express themselves differently than others who paint on a canvass, or write a book, or sing a song. It gives us a chance to be what we want to be for those few hours while we make our designs/websites/wutever else. Thats why I believe that websites shouldn't be used from a template. I mean its a quick fix, but does it express who YOU are? And thats the question I ask everyone who shows me something, does it express who yOU are and what YOU want to be. Even absract stuff has a deep meaning to the designer.

When looking at a lot of websites you can see a designer in them, you can understand the designer and what the designer likes and dislikes. from his website i think retro is a very non retro person, haha. he likes a clean cut design with a no fuss no muss sort of thing. He likes things to go as planned and not to go astray. He is a very calculated person and always has some sort of plan.

If i am wrong, than i am wrong, but thats what i see from his site. From my website you can probabaly tell i am un-organized and my thoughts are all over the place. Many times I am not sure what i want to put where and I like to rush things out quickly without going over them.

Well srry for rambling but you know, i get bored, lol.

The reason you're pc loads it quick is because you;re cookies are stored. therefore it loads quick. other users dont have cookies on their pc yet, so have to wait for them to download. The link is dead btw

oh and hacking 'programs' are for stupid kids who just want to be hacked themselves. hackers tend to publicise programs, then when you download them, they have your info lol. it's clever because dumbass kids actually believe that programs will work. all though most have to be manually sent. a minority or prgrams allow hacking through IP adress's etc

Posted by: DMo224

Good answer, Kortex!

You also might try a partner forum that is just about webmastering, which is in my sig. **points down ----v**

You have probabaly never heard of back orifice, which is not so much a tool for hacking, but for remote administration, but than again it can be used for hacking. The only problem is it is now easily detected by every virus scanner on the market.

Back orifice is an OPEN SOURCE program for secure remote administration. It supplies many tools such as key logging, remote use of APPS, and the ability to see what processes and programs the client is running.

Since it is open source many people have confirmed that there is no code or backdoors within the admin/server programm which would allow a Developer to steal information about the admin/server computer.
