I've finally setup my router. It's working fine but now I find out I need to move the physical location of the router to anther room.
I am wondering if I unplug the phone line and power from the DSL modem and the power from the router.....will I need to setup the router settings again? Like inputting PPPoE login, password etc etc? Or are my settings saved in the router somewhere and all I need to do is reconnect them and everything will work like before?
The reason why I ask is in the Quick Start Manual, they made a big fuss about do not plug power into the router and DSL modem when connecting everything. What is the reason for it?
I guess I am just scared that I will break something by disconnecting something when the power is on. In general, should I unplug the power to the router and dsl modem before doing any moving around??

Ussually the settings are stored in the devise. Some units don't, but most do. You should be ok. And I don't think you will cause any problems by removing the power and plugging them back in. I never have...

Yea....as a general rule with most networking hardware, you want to power a device off before making changes. But how many people actually do this???? I don't and I have never had a problem. I would certainly recommend, that since you are asking, to follow the instructions and mess with the connections after the device is powered off. After all, it is their hardware..... :)
You will not have to enter in the information in the router again when you power it back on. Only if you reset the router....

concerning the loss of configuration, you need to know where the configuration is stored at. check the manual. if it's in NVRAM or Flash you won't need to worry about it. if it's in RAM (I've never seen any router does so, my dsl modem has a save configuration option, I think it'll store it in flash), you need to backup.
when I was using the routers in my school's lab we just left the power on (for the whole semester) and did everything on it. but if your manual say so, then you do so.

Any manu that created a router that didn't save a configuration after a power loss is CRAZY! I have never seen a router like this.

I've removed power to my Linksys Router many times and didn't lose the Config. I enter the config properties via an IP address.
