There's a specific console commeand to reconfigure your display settings... I forget the name o fit, but it should be in the documentation... sorry I can't provide more info right now..... if u still don't have it this afternoon, I'll look it up for you, I just don't have time atm

CTRL-ALT-PlusKey
CTRL-ALT-MinusKey
will cycle thru the resolutions that are setup...
or
Start->System-settings->display
from a command prompt
try xf86config
or
redhat-config-xfree86

make sure that you have the monitor and video card selected properly...
