there is a tweak that makes XP Pro boot really fast
create an MS DOS batch file, name it ntosboot and put in "del c:\windows\prefetch\ntosboot-*.* /q" (without quotes) and put it in C:\
then you go to start, run then gpedit.msc
go to Windows Settings (in Computer Configuration) then go to shutdown. then you add ntosboot.bat
close gpedit and reboot

what does that do?

it removes the prefetch so it boots faster

Isn't the prefetch supposed to help it boot faster? I thought that was the whole idea:confused:

Depends on whether you set it to optimize for applications or boot stuff.
I read this prefetch optimization on tweakxp a while ago and tried it, but found that bootvis worked great along with getting rid of some unecessary services - so left out the prefetch optimization.
I think it is good to clean it out once in while, but I'm not sure about every time...kinda seems like it would defeat its purpose. But I can't say for sure if clearing the prefetch every time speeds things up... *shrug* If it works for your system, then cool!

prefetch is supposed to try and make things run faster, but it loads all the prefetch on boot. - from what I've tried the performance difference is only slight - if the PC boots without loading the prefetch it will save boot time
