Between the 6600gt and x800gt, which would you choose.
6600gt-pci-express $154

pros:
SM 3.0 support
FP 32 support
sli capable

cons:
128-bit memory interface
128mb

x800gt-pci-express $165
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814131420
pros:
256MB
256-bit interface
crossfire?

cons:
SM 2.0 support
FP 16 support

Is 256MB and 256-bit more important than SM 3.0 and FP 32 support? Supposedly, the x800gt is faster than a 6600gt. X800gt also based on ati x850 core, but with half the pipelines.

6600gt most will say here
like me.
I see you have a ? by crossfire. it is like ati's version of sli.

Posted by: damasta55r

i meant im unsure whether it supports crossfire.

6600GT. It is very depressing that my brand new 6600GT (which I love BTW) is considered "low end." Oh well, it does what I need it to and more.

Posted by: damasta55r

not exactly low-end, but lowest high-end.

Posted by: Grayfox

x800gt HANDS DOWN

The reviews ive seen show it 30% faster then the 6600gt.

edit: btw it does support crossfire.

Lol Grayfox, proof? And everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Erm...6600GT ples...

I don't consider a $150 videocard as low end....

Posted by: Mr. Switch

yeah, the 6600's and X600-X800GT cards aren't low-end, nor are they high-end. their midrange.

for this, i would say that if one wants performance for the meantime, go for the X800GT, if one wants longevity for tomorrow, go for the 6600GT.

Who the **** is powercolor??

Posted by: damasta55r

Its an ati card manufacturer.

I read a very impressive review of the x800. And 256bit vs. 128? I'd jump on the 256. But alot of things are happening in gaming graphics and software support (SM FP?) can add alot of cool things so that is tough. In fact, I'd wait for something that has both for under $200.

The 6600GT maybee 128 bit, but it's more efficent and higher clockspeeds make up for it's small memory path.

6600GT by far gets my vote, x800GT is a marketing ploy by ATI.

Well, the 6600 GT isn't really powerful enough for Shader Model 3.0 to make that much of a difference. Now if you are talking about 6800GT vs. X800XL, then yeah, shader 3 is something to consider. However, the 6600 GT just isn't powerful enough to make heavy use of SM3 and get good framerates. Most people here are Nvidia fans, but I tend to look at both sides. I say get the X800GT over the 6600 GT.

Coming from you, I am suprised.

With my 6600GT, in both SCCT and Far Cry I use SM3 to make my games look purdy. I think BF2 and FEAR are using shader model 3 as well, which my 6600GT can run at high settings -blob shadows.

Now beedubya, considering the x800gt and 6600GT are both 8 pipe cards. Doing a bit of research, in higher resolutions the x800GT can pull ahead of the 6600GT. Here are some benchmarks

Dam i missed it, what was it?

Posted by: damasta55r

It was a dumb scheme to get rich. Providing a service... This is off topic though. So far 6600gt is winning.

out of those I'd pick the 6600 GT by far.
but I'd get one of these instead.
it's a 12 pipe 6800, which can be modded to 16 pipes
it will outperform the 6600 GT and X800 GT
