I was thinking about upgrading my computer for gaming purposes and i would like to know what upgrade you might recommend. I have
AMD Athlon XP 2400+ at 2 Ghz
Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 128 MB
1 Gig of 333 Mhz pc 2700 ram
should i upgrade my processor to an AMD Athlon 64 4000+ or
should i upgrade my video card to a ati radeon x800 pro.
Please help. Remember it is for gaming purposes.

Well you should upgrade your CPU and Video Card, but the video card has a higher priority over the CPU in gaming.
So upgrade your vid card first.

Get the best cpu you can afford.
And get a 7800GT if you can afford it.
But if your on like a 160 dollar budget for a GFX Card then get a EVGA 6600GT

Processor over video card. But your motherboard support AMD64. It has to be socket 939.

my motherboard does not support it but i already figured that into my pricing
$500 for 4000+ and an asus a8n-e socket 939
or
$250 for SAPPHIRE 100600-Red Radeon X800PRO 256MB

x800pro is a bad choice.. Many people have been tlaking about this on these forums. 6800GT will perform better than it. Search beedubaya's posts, you'll get the idea, lol

Yeah, DON'T GET THE X800PRO! I have an X800 Pro, and while its a good card in itself, it can't compare in one bit to the 6800 GT which is the same price! Its pretty much a no brainer...the choice between the two. Get the 6800 GT.

Its the type of slot for your video card. If you have an older system you will probably need an AGP video card. Cpu-z can give you that info about your motherboard.

Probably EVGA. Leadtek also good.
