I'm pretty sure my Ethrnet port on my computer is broken. I've never been able to connect to the internet through ethernet, I have to connnect through a USB cord. The reason why this annoys me is because it's a pain to deal with at LAN parties. What should I do? Is there anything I can buy?

have u downloaded all the appropriate drivers for your motherboard if its integrated LAN? buy an ethernet card

If you haven't already, I'd check the obvious things first. Drivers up to date for the NIC? Check there's no issues with the Network Adapter in Device Manager.

What actually happens when you try and connect using the network card?

absloutly noting happens when i try to connect. It just doesn't. It's like i'm not connected at all. I was gonna get an ethernet card, but I wanted to know if there was a way I could fix my problem an easier, cheaper way. Where would you get the mother board drivers and such you were talking about?

go to the compnays website of your mobo.

well if you have a manual that would simplify things. if not its should be printed on the m/b somewhere. if you have trouble with finding the drivers a site thats never failed me yet is http://www.driver-guide.com might take a bit of hunting though. go to the manufacturers website first though, only use driver-guide if you can't find them any where else.

first goto internet options/connection and make sure it is set up the way it should be like never dial a connection then click on lan settings and make sure the auto detect is on for proxy settings then goto network connections through the control panel make sure thre aren't two network cards that r enabled make sure the only one enabled is the one you r trying to connect with. besides what the rest of the ppl say too make sure driver is good goto device manager and check it out. ive had bad luck with on board i mean even one of the new pc's we have has a lousy lan and its a p5ad2 anyways if usb works then dont bother use the pc!!
