Discuss 6800GT or 7800GTX

I'm building a new computer and I was wondering if it would be worth it to get the 7800GTX rather than the 6800GT which I had planned on buying. Here's the rest of the sytem I plan on getting.
AMD Athlon 64 3800
1 gig cosair value select
MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
ViewSonic G90FB

It seems that the 6800GT is the best, But the 7800GTX is newer so they are both somewhat equal in performance. IMO i would get the 6800Gt and save my money.

What about the 7800GT?

What do you mean the 6800GT is the best??

7800GTX is the best card out.. but it also costs a ton more than a 6800gt.
Id go with the 6800GT, no game can even put out enough juice to top the 7800 yet so dont even bother with it until games are better and the price drops.

For the price, and the 7800GTX isn't as big of a performance increase as you think. Right now the best high-end card on a budget is indeed the 6800GT.

It'd only be a $150 dollar difference....well ok, that's a good amount I guess. Technically it'd be a $200 dollar difference, but the 7800 comes with a game I was planning on buying anyways.

Pick whichever, they are both excellent video cards.

Well with that advice I think I'm going to just stick with the 6800gt. I'm completely ok with not spending more money. ;)

I'd get the 7800GTX myself. I costs more but it'll be longer before you have to upgrade.

Not much longer.
The 7800GTX isnt that much more powerful.
Just OC the 6800GT.

the 7800 GTX also has a more advanced version of Anti-Aliasing
I would just say, depending on your wallet and needs, it's up to you.

well thats what i mean its still a great card the price is hard. But most still games dont run full load on it. 6800GT still seems to be the better buy.

I would say 6800gt is plenty for now.

I had this same dilemma. I decided to go w/ the 7800gtx because it has 50% more pixel pipelines, 33% more vertex pipelines, and from what reviews of the card said I felt that a little more money would be worth it. In Anantech's review the 7800gtx performed quite a bit better than the 6800 ultra and about equal (in most tests) with the 6800 ultra's in SLI. I guess it all depends on what you are willing to spend.

Which by the last report should be available sometime around the end of 2013.. :p
If the $150 price difference doesn't bother you, the 7800GTX is definately the more powerful card...

you cant go wrong if you pick the 7800GTX

I'm now slightly fearing that if I get the 7800GTX they'll have it replaced within no time. I'm still not sure. I may get it though.

If the 7800GTX is too much, than go fot the 7800GT. it has 20 pipelines and 1 less vertex unit than the GTX, but still has all the anti-aliasing bells and whistles.

but for 30 dollars more you can get the GTX

I like this review for the 7800GTX:

The most recent edition of CPU had an article about the GT 7800 that claimed that a single 7800 outperformed 2 6800s in SLI. That's worth checking out. I'm getting 2 of the 7800s for an upcoming build. I have yet to see hard core specs from Benchmarks though.
