OK FOR my next rig, which processor should i get with these parts:
Mobo: DFI Lanparty UT nF4 Ultra-D (939)
RAM: OCz Platinum 1GB
HDD: Undecided
PSU: OCZ 520W Modstream
GPU: XFX Geforce 7800GTX
CPU: A) AMD Athlon 64 Venice 3200+
B) AMD Athlon 64 X2 Toledo 4400+
C) AMD AThlon 64 FX55 Clawhammer
Which would be suitable for gaming and can you recomend any? I only want AMD. :D
Thanks

a.

The FX CPU is better for gaming, but only in benchmarks. The X2 is a better buy, as it will perform really well for games, and it will also allow for heavy multitasking
Posted by: U-Toast
no need to spend so much.. just get a and oc it
Posted by: DJ-CHRIS
B because it's future proof
Posted by: GuitarFreak1857
yeah but how many games support duel core?
Posted by: Ste
A dual core CPU will be the best because, whether a game supports the second core or not it still will run the speed of the first core so by buying a dual core as someone else said it will be future proofed, also its the latest tech so why not? I would buy it.
Posted by: GuitarFreak1857
because you can run a game on one core and run like itunes on the other. i do that a lot, i'll be running at least 5 apps at once durring a game. AIM, Ventrilo, Itunes, Firefox. ect.
Posted by: Tyler1989
not many but all games run on a duel core.
Posted by: GuitarFreak1857
i think i'll just get a AMD Athlon 64 Venice 3800+, venice is a good gaming processor.
Posted by: jerry5739
i dont see why u would want to play games, surf the net, and play music simultaneously......

I would get the 3700 San Diego over the 3800 Venice. Twice the cache ;)
Posted by: DJ-CHRIS
Yeah get the 3700+ San Diego :)
Real good for overclocking too

You get what you pay for.

I'm not a fan of buying a processor that i have to OC to make perform. Just buy a good processor, don't OC, and not worry about a nuke going off in your case.

You dont have to overclock it to peform, and the 3700+ is cheaper, and has the larger cache which helps.
OC'ing a processor, it's VERY HARD TO ACTUALLY DAMMAGE IT.

How borring :p
Posted by: GuitarFreak1857
yeah i did notice the L2 Cache was only 512 in the venice cores. ok i'll go with the san diego, does it run cool?
Posted by: BColes
by "perform" I'm saying you shouldn't have to OC a brand new processor to get what you want out of it and take that .001% chance that something WILL FRY. ha
I'm a little boring :p

OK Heres my decided new rig, ready?
Case: Thermaltake Tsunami, Black
PSU: OCZ 520W Modstream
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 San Diego 3700+
Mobo: DFI Lanparty UT nF4 Ultra-D
GPU: XFX Geforce 7800GTX
RAM: OCZ Platnium 1GB
LCD: Samsung 17" Black Display
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster Audigy2
what you guys think?

Very nice :D

i forgot HDDs, i'm thinking about getting 1 WD Raptor 74GB 10kRPM and a 250GB WD Caviar. but what would you use each HDD for? like which one to install windows on...
Posted by: dhw200
Instal windows on the Raptor, and use the 250 HD for file storage. Also, i think the Seagate Barracuda models are better
Posted by: GuitarFreak1857
is there a choice on which HDD to install windows on?
Posted by: GuitarFreak1857
Hows this for a large storage HDD?-

Yes, with SATA you have a primary and secondary connector on the mobo. Plug the Raptor into primary and the Seagate into the secondary. You then install XP on the Raptor.

Great choice. That is the same HDD combo I have :D
Posted by: GuitarFreak1857
were on the mobo is it for the DFI Lanparty Ultra-D nF4 UT?

I wish I had the money you have. It's going to run everything throw at it. Jelous...
Posted by: GuitarFreak1857
i just cant wait to try BF on it :D I just did a spreadsheet on comparing the prices from Newegg to Monarch, and monarch was cheaper....hmmmmmmm.
Posted by: Flanker
Hmm, that 3700+ looks weird in the rest of that Uber rig, lol. Make sure to overclock it nicely.
Also, seeing as you have money to spare, I recommend getting another gig of RAM.
Posted by: GuitarFreak1857
idk i'll hafta get a good heatsink fan. theres one in MaximumPC mag that got good ratings its called Cooler Master's Hyper 6+. i'll newegg it and see if they have it.

what about playing a game, listening to music and downloading on P2P at the same time
Posted by: GuitarFreak1857
hey!! hes gotta point!
Posted by: Apokalipse
personally, if I had the money, I'd go dual core. Toledo if possible (2x1MB L2 cache)
even if the games don't benefit much, running apps simultaneously, and some apps designed to utilize 2 cores, will run much better

Soon games will be optimized for dual core systems. So if you get a dual core, you will be able to speed up programs that support SMP, multitask, and be future proof for the new game optimizations.

does anyone have a duel core processor?
