I took a HDD out from another computer. that HDD was the primary HDD for the computer. I suppose I must reformat it for it to work for an entirley new system?
(stupid tigerdirect is taking forever to ship my my SATA HDDs for my new system and I can't wait to check my new computer out)

if it was the primary and the boot drive (primary is not always boot) and you wish to use it as your boot drive then assuming the os is 2000 or XP you will have to reformat. previous os's such as 98 and 95 are swappable between computers without much difficulty but XP pretty much needs a clean install which can get rather annoying

True, though not always the case. I'd suggest trying to fix the boot sector from the recovery console first. I had a similar problem at work whereby a users system would boot until the windows loading screen, then restart. I forget whether it was 'fixboot' or 'fixmbr' that I used... you'd have to look it up.
