I just recently got into video editing. The software that I am using is Ulead Videostudio 9.0. During the time of capturing the video I have no problems. The problem comes when I am editing it. As far as splitting and adding things like music to the video are fine but once I try to play the video to see what it looks like, it takes about 15 seconds before it actually starts and it is kinda choppy. I noticed that my cpu goes from about 10% usage to 100%. My ram hardly get uses at all. So my question is how to I set my computer to use more of the ram so that it is easier on the cpu. Also my cpu is not running at full speed due to previous heat issues.

You can either get more RAM or increase the size of your swap file

i have a gig of ram and it is hardly being used and my swap file is set at 1536 which is 1.5 * 1024.

For sure a stronger processor and video card will cure the delay. For now though have you tried any of the online XP tweaks to fine tune your system? I have found that they helped a lot on my rig.
