penline you can not spell

You should have gone AMD with the mobo. AMD CPUs are better no matter if you go single core or multi.

yes a heard about that when it was too late

Keep your ignorance to your self please.

Get PC3200 ram and ditch the old 2700 sticks completely. PSU, depending on the +12V amp, get the 7800GT instead.

Yeah you need AT LEAST 1 gig for BF2, 2 gig is ideal.
Posted by: Sh0r_ty
yep at least 1gig of pc3200 i can't quite max out bf2 but if i had 2gig and 7800gtx then i could :) 6600GT and 1 gig allows me to do 1280X1024 high quolity

Thats not right bro, i have a 3000+ (was a 2600+ when i tested this) and a 6800GT 512 3200 and i played max setting w/ 4X AA and 1024x768@85hz. You got somethig wrong.
As for the system i would say a gig of 3200 at the least and a 6800GT will do fine but if the PSU permits i would go 7800GTX.

Yes I am talking to you jackal.

Explain yourself, how am I so ignorant for recommending AMD processors?
Posted by: algu7344
You said AMD's are better whether you go with single or dual core. Seems like a ignorant biased opinion.
Posted by: j4ckaL
Well I believe that the FX-57 is the top single core and the X2 4800+ is better than the Pentium Extreme Edition in cirtian apps and definitaly in gaming.
Posted by: algu7344
Well true, but your comparing the best processors around. You try video encoding or compiling, then you will get some experience under your belt:)
Posted by: j4ckaL
Maybe I will, after I build my new rig with an X2 4800+.:D
Posted by: algu7344
Ok, but just word of advice, dont have biased opinions around here when you have nothing to back it up. Intel and AMD or both good, period.
Posted by: P.P. Mguire
The 4800+ still pwns either way, but he has no use for a dual core processor so please take the deabte elsewhere.
Posted by: timmer
na ur 2700 will work fins just get 2 gigs or 1.5gb of it. then a 6800gt. and a 3.0ghz 64bit intel chip. everything will run smooth as a wistle.
Posted by: algu7344
We are not talking about whether the 4800 pwns either way, we are talking about single core processors. Dude, I dont know where you guys get it where you think that just AMD "Pwns". Read a book about it someday.

GUYS!!! Its really sickening how easy people hijack threads around here! dont turn this into a flame war.
Okay penline, if you can return what you've bought, i would do it, at least with some of your products. If you want the computer to be future proof, or at least in a relative sense, swap in the mobo for a PCIE mobo, preferabbly a DFI model. If not, then MSI.
Swap out the RAM for some DDR400, as DDR 333 is outdated and slow.
It is true that AMD Athlon 64 CPUs generally do better in games, but it is really only noticeable in benchmarks. A p4 3.4 ghz CPU with a 6800 GT would do nicely for BF2. You also have to make sure the PSU is from a good brand. By that, I mean OCZ, Thermaltake, Antec, PCP&C or Ennermax. Everything else, whether or not it comes with a case, is crap. You also will probably want a DVD drive/burner, as they are kinda mandatory these days.
It would be helpful if you posted a budget

Well maybe people should know what they are talking about. Seriously, this place has gone down hill. I dont know what is going on, but when I joined, it was full of pretty decently, semi-knowledgeable people. With a bunch of people know what they are talking about. Now it is full of 14 year old kids thinking they are "leet" or whatever the **** it is and talking about **** that is way over their head. I mean seriously, I have not seen one thread that hasnt had somebody say something stupid or totally incorrect, and then fight about it. Look how many people have left. Nubius stopped being a mod, this should really tell you something.

well dhw200
that is interesting
i already new that the ram wouldnt do
but i had purchased all the bits when i worked at lenards chicken about a year ago so i havent had any money since then
thats why my stuff is a bit out of date.
i got the news today that i am now working at mcdonalds! :D so my budget is scarce
i have purchased all my things off ebay so they are unretearnable
Posted by: dhw200
Okay, you can still work with what you have, but I want you to know that should you decide to upgrade your video card in the future, the newest generation of cards will NOT be AGP.
A 6800 GT would do nicely, as would the P4 3.2ghz. What kind of PSU do you have? If it came with your case, id recommend that you get a new one. The Thermaltake Silent PurePower 460 watter should be fine for you
You already said you would be getting more RAM, so thats good. And I would also recommend that you have a DVD drive and burner. Practiclly standard for today, and osme games are only being rleased on DVDs.

Hey penline, I have a job at A&W to pay for my gaming rig.:D
Posted by: penline
i have a 400w silentpower psu
i was already thinking about getting a dvd burner

Listen to DHW, he knows his ****....You obviously have some cash with the forementioned P4 3.2 and a 6800gt; which will play BF2 well. U need min 350w with a 6800gt. Your good to go.

If your going to go the AGP route (which is not prefferable), then I would recommend the Thermaltake Silent Purepower 460 watt PSU. If your going to go PCIE, id get the OCZ Modstream 510 watt PSU

this is all very confusing but you have helped and i thankyou
