Which would run bf2 better, a asus geforce4 mx440 64mb agp or a ati radeon 9600xt 128mb agp?

Posted by: Pepsiboy700

Im only asking because i get lag every couple of seconds. Its probably cause my step mom bought my dad a shitty 19 inch lcd by proview that i guess sucks for gaming causing lag. Im asking becuase my dad started playing bf2.

The 9600xt. Monitor shouldn't cause any lag...

Posted by: Pepsiboy700

its lcd though there supposivly bad for gaming unless really expensive but at that point just get a crt. Thats just what ive heard the most about.

LCD are impossible to get for less than $200 and they're GOOD for gaming. If the GeForce 4 is your gfx card, then thats the problem. The card sucks =/ and will cause major lag. Neither of them will run BF2 well, but the 9600xt will run it BETTER.

Ati radeon 9600xt

Its about 4X as faster not to mention way newer.

Definately go with the 9600. I have a 9800 Pro 128mb and it runs wonderfully so I would assume that the 9600 would do a good job.

why am i getting lag every 3 seconds. I mean it gets annoying and its weird how ill be playing and i move the mouse and hit buttons on keyboard it freezes visually but still keeps going audio wise. Ive played on a system exactly like this but with a crt and it runs fine. (Dell 16 inch crt)

k i think it might your ram and your vide card too. but ge this i have a 6600gt and 1 gb and i can 1024 with all high but with the same **** you describing for about 1-2 min then it plays fine. so dotn expect much from iether card you getting. 800 with low settings and voip off soudn lwo quality? im just guessing.

Monitors Will NOT cause lag, all they do is take the signal from your video card, and project it on the screen. Reason you hear LCD are bad for games is something called Ghosting, When you turn quick the screen will blur a little. You will get that with all LCD's that have higher than 12ms response time. Now the 2 video cards stated above are not going to beable to play BF2 with out lagging. Reason being is that they are OLD. BF2 reguires atleast 128mb video ram from a video card, so the 64mb geforce4 MX is pretty well screwed there. And the 9600 if i recall right is a DX 7-8 card, while BF2 reguires a DX9 card.

I had a problem similar to yours. I would skip once every... oh, 5 minutes or so. People diagnosed it as everything. Finally, I figured out myself it was my ethernet card.

If you have a spare, swap it out and see if its the problem. Cant hurt to check.

You NEED the 9600XT, the game won't run on those old nVidia's, only the new ones, like the 6600 GT (I reccomend it over the 9600XT, and I have both), Battlefield 2 also NEEDS 128 MB MINIMUM!

Also, 2 GB's of RAM worked wonders for me ;)

NOT TRUE! I HAVE the 9600XT, and it runs it fine on all settings medium on my old 2.6GHz P4, 1GB RAM Dell, so the 9600XT will work, but I still say you would be better off by spending the extra cash on the nVidia eVGA 6600GT ...

it'll just play BF2 in DX8 mode i guess..

btw, why don't you just let your dad use your comp? i bet yours can run BF2 nicely..

All I know is that the game is engineered towards Nvidia cards. Specifically the geforce series (but I think thats just to get people to buy from the geforce series). Well anyway, I have an nvidia gforce fx go 5200 so it at least runs with minimal lag on my machine.

Geforce 4 cannnot run the game. 9600XT can, simple as that.

And the game requires a card with DX9 SOFTWARE SUPPORT, not HARDWARE.

yep 9600. Mine is not even xt only 9600 the 1st serie and i can run bf2 with perfect fps very fluid though forget the anti-aliasing and anisotropic stuff!! Every option to low but textures to medium...still look better than half-life 1 at least lol
