I am not sure wither your trying to play a DVD CD in your DVD drive and not getting any response. Alternatively, whether you have copied a movie using an ordinary drive and trying to play it back in your DVD drive. If the latter is true then it will not work. A DVD uses compression software to write and you need the some to read. There is software on the market that you can use on an ordinary CD drive to give you DVD re-production. How good they are I do not know hope I have help.

if it was just a plain dvd-rom his burner software would not even allow him to make dvd's. he even told us that his hardware is a TDK 4x indiDVD atapi 420N.
and you mentioned about compression, most blockbuster movies are dvd9 and the dvd recordables are only dvd5, yes he would need to get software to decrypt and compress them i agree. but his software would warn him about not enough space. plus playstation 2 games probably would all fit.
DamienChilds i think its either your playstation cannot read from dvd+ or you have burned the game wrong. also i think you need a MOD chip to play burned games on playstation 2, .....actually i think that's exactly your problem.
