Sometimes my eyes get tired of staring at the screen, and sometimes I'm around friends whose computer savvy ends at the "on" button. For these times, there's always old-school entertainment, such as books or movies. One of my things I do with friends is play board games from time to time.
So, what are your favorite old-school or new-school board games? Ever try any Cheapass Games (tm)? :)
My personal fav is "Battleship", followed closely by Steve Jackson's "Orcs At The Gates".

i rather like monopoly and MTG

Monopoly is good, but it takes absolutely forever. With my friends, it turns into an exercise in endurance...

Actual board games that I like:

Chess (haven't played in a long time)
Backgammon
Cribbage
Card games:

Spades
Hearts
Trumps (also called Up and Down - my favorite)
There are some others that I really like, and Pictionary is one of them. I can't remember the name of it, but there's one game where the players draw cards for the definition of a word and only one player has the real definition. Everyone takes a turn on explaining what it means and tries to convince the others they are right. There is a vote for points. Best game I've ever seen for liars. LoL! Lots of fun. Name that game!

Anyone heard of Balderdash?

Anyone heard of HEX? it was invented by the legendary John Nash (who, sadly is more known because of the movie than his actual achievements). He invented when he came to the conclusion that Go, my second favorite game was flawed.

Risk, monopoly, Axis & Allies, I played a bit of Warhammer but it an expensive game and it is so difficult to find someone to play with. I got in with a friend so we could play together and as soon as he quit I pretty much had to as I don't know anyone else who plays.
