Discuss Looking into spam/virus appliance.....
Posted by: Tuff02Ranger
Where I work, we have done an excellent job with virus protection and building our own 'black list' to prevent some of the spam that comes into our exchange server. However, we are now to the point of looking into something like a Barracuda system to eliminate so much of the spam and viruses getting through to our employees.
I've looked around and found handfulls of vendors that supply these types of appliances, but I'm wondering if anyone has done any sort of comparison between multiple appliances. Does anyone have anything bad to say about certain ones out there? Are there systems to stay away from? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Ok, maybe I led you on the wrong track. I'm looking for reviews/comparisons on different hardware appliances, such as the link below, for our network.

Because that's what they call newbies. You have to have a certain number of posts before you can change that. Keep posting in ANYTHING but off-topic and you will get there.
Okay, let me look and it may take me over the weekend, so remind me on Sun if I haven't posted by then. Liz

Unfortunately, no. This is all software that is coming up on the internet that you have listed. I'm looking for hardware. Literally a machine for my network, that is placed between our exchange server and the internet, that filters out emails containing viruses, spam mail, blacklisted domains, etc.

Unfortunately, hardware has to have software to make it run. So regardless of what hardware you use, you still have to use something from this list. Liz

These hardware appliances have their own software built into them. Look at the link below, you will see what I'm talking about....

To be brutally honest, unless it is on this list: http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/archives/products.xml?table I don't trust it to protect me as far as an antivirus goes. Liz

Well, then you haven't experienced any kind of enterprise solution before. This appliance isn't for just a single pc or for someone's home pc's. I'm talking about a front-end for a mail server that manages over 1500 mail accounts with over 2 million emails daily. Guess I came to the wrong site for this information. Doesn't seem you are on the level of technology I'm looking for. Thanks for your help.

I guess not but then I'll admit I am fairly new at this, you might want to try one of these:

I would try http://www.experts-exchange.com/ last because you have to pay to join. Liz

I was trying to avoid paying for a membership to experts exchange, but you're right. It's looking like that's where I'm gonna need to go. I can't find the info I'm looking for no matter where I search. Again, thanks for your help.
Posted by: southernlady
At least I tried. Good luck. Oh and if you do find what you are searching for, could you come back and update me? Liz

Sure Will.

If you just stop using Internet Explorer and go with Mozilla Firefox that should keep "spyware" and other unwanted parasites out.
