I have a PS2 version 39001 and a Game Shark2 version 3. Can I boot backups with just a game shark or do I have to get a mod chip??

Your console must have a mod-chip to play backups. (unless you want to use some cheesy knife trick, but I won't even get into that)

I would recommend just getting a modchip for your ps2 if you want to actually [I]play[/I] backups. Depending on which modchip you get, you won't even need to swap with the gameshark.

Save yourself the time and breaking your PS2s drive motor. Buy a Flip-Top+Swap Magic 3.0 when it comes out in 2-4 weeks.
