Discuss Free Submit Websites
Posted by: GIO
I have been searching on ways to submit my website to different search engines.
My question is do these free submit websites really work or did I just sign up for a bunch of spam?
Is there a better solution. Maybe a cheap inexpensive way?
Regards.

Yes I do get allot of hits thru Google. But my main problem is how to grasp the art of creating a good keyword combo.
Do I add names, cars, my girl models, topics, movie names, etc...you know everything that my website is related to or remotely related to?
Then I was reading somewhere else that yahoo is the way to get a top ranking spot? That you actually have to write a pretty decriptive bio about what your website is about?
Or do they have people that actually know any tricks or just the simple know how on how to do this kind of work?
And my final question...my forum is pretty busy but these so called "crawl spiders" are they actually crawling my forum? Cause thats where 90% of my FYI info is located now.

I would use your main keywords and a few remotely-related also, but make sure at least your main keywords are also in your normal webpage-content
i don't know about yahoo
as far as i know the spiders only look for links and keyword relevancy. You can use a robots.txt file or put the "no-index" line in your meta-tags

Do I use the keywords that are shown in my awstats?
And you lost me on the robots.txt, the meta tag???
I am an extremely fast learner though.

whats "awstats"?
well. I don't use the robots.txt, and I would not worry about the spiders crawling your forums...let them so the forums can be found in google
lets see if I can post you an example of meta tags:
<meta name="title" content="Put a second title here">
<meta name="description" content="Nice website with forum, stuff, cars">
<meta name="keywords" content="forum, stuff, cars">
<meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="en">
<meta name="language" content="en">
<meta name="robots" content="INDEX,FOLLOW">
<meta name="author" content="TheMajor">
<meta name="copyright" content="TheMajorWebdesign">
<meta name="revisit-after" content="5 days">
place it between the <head> and </head> in yer website

http://www.teckademicseast.com/gio/awstatskeywords.jpg this is an example of a section in my awstats. Its a referencing program that gives me diferent types of information about my site, but with a very friendly and ergonomic interface.
Yea I haven't quite gotten that far where I am comfortable changing or adding code yet to my pages.
I have this fear of messing something up.

you can use notepad to change the code
i don't know if PHP uses META?
Posted by: TheMajor
yes, i would add these awstats' keywords in yer META, and some other keywords
these links are useful for u:

Is there a way to preview your changes before making them go into affect. Or is it one of those moves where you keep hitting refreash and see what happens?
Posted by: TheMajor
i think I don't understand..what do you mean?
are u still talking about META tags?

if yer using PHP you should try out the last link first
if yer using HTML or XHTML you should use the META-tag I posted as an example

hah, the age old question, how to advertise your site... have a huge keyword base.... dont exclude anything your site pertains to or my pertain to at some point... and personally if u want yoursite to get a lot of hits.. your keywords should be like this;
cars, rx7, rotary, engine, PORN, bodykits, PORN, PORNO, SEX............. just kidding, but it seems that anytime u go to a search engine to search for anything, like example search for ..... lets say uhhh... i dunno.. american history.. and it comes up with
AMERICAN HISTORY IN PORN. heh.. i know this post will prove useless, but its something to think about, if u want your website to get hits, whether they want to see your site or not, this would be the way to do it, however if u want good and quality hits, advertise on as many forums as u can, post a link to your site anywhere u possibly can, self promotion.

Here's two sites that'll work great for you...
This site helps you find good keywords for you. It'll show how many times it was searched in the past month and even better keywords to use: http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/
This site will submit your site to something like 100+ search engines:
http://www.evrsoft.com/fastsubmit/
And actually neu, your site should stay under 10 keywords... The broader your selection of keyword is, the less of a chance that a search engine will post your site up for what your site is really about...
Example: If your site is about sports.. you don't wanna put everything from knee pads to skating wheels on there, you want to keep it toned down to a few keywords that are highly searched. When a website sees the keyword that was searched on your site plus 50 more, it will think that your site is too broad for what the user is searching for.

I thought if you put too much not related words. and/or exceed a certain number of words/characters in your metatags, you may be put in the spam list... ? read this somewhere. how true is this.. hmm..

i did it and google still worked

don't worry about META keyword tags, most search engines don't use them.
As for search engine submission tools, I wouldn't use them. Most of the major search engines will find you anyway. These tools usually just load your email inbox with spam.
Posted by: TheMajor
Maybe, but google uses them and because google is #1 searchengine I would use META. You cannot get high rankings (on google) without good META tags unless you have a very high pigeonrank.
