Discuss Nintendo "Revolution"

Posted by: SoapOnARoap

According to IGNCube, nintendo is currently in development of their next system, codenamed "Revolution." Though not much is known about the console, the spokespersons from Nintendo did inform IGN that "The console is codenamed Revolution for a reason: Nintendo expects it to be revolutionary. The system will, according to Nintendo, fundamentally change how games are played -- literally."

Nintendo currently has two technologically eligible systems, one of which will be deemed the final, commercial "Revolution." Both feature a 15 GB harddrive and PowerPC G5 processors.

If anyone finds anything out about this mysterious console, please, do inform us!

It better be holographic gaming.

It might not be something -too- revolutionary. Might just be building up hype as they all do for every games system.

Maybe Virtual Reality! :D

Posted by: paintballer

whatever it is it better be good, nintendo will be pretty much done if they dont hit it big with their next console

Posted by: ZmasterZ

Hopefully its not to advanced (like T3 or I, Robot) or we are all screwed. lol
Maybe Virtual Reality!
Nintendo tried that already, remember? It was called the "Virtual Boy", or better known as "Nintendo's Big Red $200 Headache Machine."

Posted by: Oceanb0rn

Ha ha, I remember VB... **pukes**

With a G5 processor, you know they're going for a huge multimedia experience. That's why you get a Mac to begin with.

Sounds exciting...

Posted by: Tuskatappaja

It seems the virtual reality was dead already when it was born.

Posted by: dethangel

i want something i can plug in to my head already, dang it!!!

stopp looking at me like that, i know other people are thinking it, i just said it

Posted by: sayaprayer

Well I like nintendo, but I hope if they make a new powerful gaming system, that they consider more then just family games. But with a "revolutionary" system I'd hope to see games that can actually use it too its fullest, rather then 30 different mario titles. (nothing against mario but he's everywhere ;) )

Posted by: {ZC}Duffman

Trust me they makin a powerful system, all the sources i come to conlusion that Revolution is going to have dual processors each running at 1.8 ghz and is likely to have an hard drive. I am not sure about the capacity of HD cuz some source say that its gonna be 15g and others say 5g. It is also gonna have built in broad band so u dont have to buy modems. the conroller will not have D-Pads, and u wont need Memory cards cuz of HD. Threr is rumor that u can hook up the system to ur computer:cool:

Posted by: Decahedron

^thats all stupid rumors.

heres another one - its goignt o use gyroscopes.

Posted by: emeraldice

....i wouldn't be laughing Decahedron.
Call me gullible...but it isn't out of the question for gyroscopes. Remember all the tilt games...most notably Kirby's till and tumble....and for other pack related sensors...Sunbeam or w/e...where the sun was related. How many times have you found yourself tilting the controller beacause you thought it would help?

I agree w/ whoever....It better be good...cauze nintendo can't survive on the DS alone w/ the PSP coming to take it out, if it does.

i like nintendo:D :D :D :D :D :D

What do you people think about these so called "leaked" images. Real? Fake? I cant imagine buying something looking like that. :(

Posted by: aj2003

i would only ever own a nintendo console, but i think this will be thelast one cos of the amount of hype there is around the xbox next and ps3 that they will be the main sellers even though for the most part they wont be as good, (again sony being rubbish but selling the most)

Posted by: ice_snuff

looking at those images im scared for the sanity of the nintendo designers
well i hope the new nintendo is good i cant bear to see zelda on "playstation"

Posted by: emeraldice

Nintendo better make it good, cauze otherwise they're screwed...

Posted by:

i think it will be good, but to debunk what someone said earlier, not going to be a multimedia expereience as good as xbox 360 or ps3, read the lasest news and i get a feeling its going to have a creazy controller

Posted by: aj2003

again i think nintendo will do the whole, "gaming only machine" where as the xbox and ps3 will do everything and sadly people will want that and not think about how good the console is.

I kind of like the new design... + it is supposedly going to be backward compatible with all previous console games from Nintendo and rumor has it that Nintendo is going to let people download all older games for free...

and I saw something funny earlier... the word "Nintendo" is in the Msword spell check

Posted by: JiLLER

I've also read that it will be backward compatible with other systems and it should be able to play GCN discs as well as the newer and hopefully 'Normal' CDs... These small ones were cool for a while... but I'd love to play CDs and DVDs through this new system. I've also read something about Nintendo wanting to put more into online gaming as well (With WiFi I think...?). Also, I believe I read that Nintendo hopes to be more comitted to good gaming, not graphics, so its graphics once again can't be compared to PS3 and XBox 360 when they are out.

Downloading older games won't be free... at least most of them won't. However, the revolution will also be compatible with not only games, but all of the controllers. Anyways, I'll shut my mouth now and just post the IGN article sites that I've read all this junk so you can see for yourself what else may be going on. (Things in Parenthesis are just what the article talks about)

http://cube.ign.com/articles/622/622870p1.html(Revolution and WiFi)

http://cube.ign.com/articles/622/622722p1.html (List of games)

http://cube.ign.com/articles/622/622303p1.html (Shigeru Interview)

There are a few other articles scattered around the site. Just copy and paste these addresses (but not the words in parenthesis) if you can't click them and they should take you right to the site. Go to http://cube.ign.com to look around and scour about for any more articles you can find on revolution.

^ Thanks for those articles, going to check them out now. I don't think I will be purchasing this console, if I even get one of the three next generation systems .. definitely won't be until the prices drop

Posted by: JiLLER

From what I understand, Sony plans on keeping 1 steady price on the PS3 after it's release... They won't do any specials like for instance, when Gamecube came out, its prices were slashed from around $300 to $150 after a few weeks and then went back up; It now pretty much sits at $150. Sony however, seems to just want to name a price and keep it there permanently. Unless it isn't costly when it comes out, you may only be looking towards Nintendo 'Revolution' and X Box 360, assuming they don't also make a 'set' price.

I trust nintendo to design and make a brilliant, fun and understated system.

when people say that they hope nintendo have HDD, broadband, CD/DVD player i have to wonder at their sanity. including these things will drive up the cost greatly especialy CD any console with CD has to pay a licensing fee. pretty stupid since most people will have a DVD player separate anyway.

the worst of all though is high definition support which is stupidly expensive and even in the US where it is most popular the % of HD TVs is less than 10%.

backwards compatibility is what many have been crying out for a long time...this will be very good for those who have not played many of the classics (including myself)

in conclusion, consoles are supposed to be cheap and accessible gaming solutions and i hope that nintendo remembers this. i still think that the new generation are coming too soon and there is plenty of life left in this gen.

Posted by: KMOTE

oh, and BTW because of $$$ tech the X-box has made a loss for microsoft while nintendo were making the bigest profit-last i heard anyway:)
