Discuss Should I get an apple?

I'll be buying a laptop next year, and I'm wondering whether I should make the leap to the Mac OS. I've been using Windows all my life basically, and feel very comfortable with XP, even though I get problems with it from time to time. Everyone I know that has an apple has told me to get one over a Windows OS. I'm afraid, though, that I'll have compatability issues since lots of games and internet software oftentimes do not have apple versions, and transferring documents between the two operating systems can get difficult at times, I guess.
Could someone advise me on whether or not to pursue this option?
Thanks

The Compatabilty is, indeed, an issue, and if games and the internet are what you intend to do, then stick with PC. They're more or less built to do those kinds of things. The Mac OS (in my opinion) is a more professional OS, for video edititng, music, photography, etc. And most Macs are not exactly adept at playing games *all though there are some great titles for mac out there :) *
Good luck with your shopping and I hope you get the computer that is right for you. :D

If youve used Windows I say stick with it. You wont have to buy any new software and the environment will be no change from what youre used to. While Im always a propoentent of swtiching, I dont think that would be such a good idea in your case.

I agree with Mac Mogul. If you want to play games then stay with Windows.
I have a Windows computer but want to add a Mac. So I am in the same boat as you. However, I use PS alot and don't play games on my PC's so I'm thinking a Mac is a good choice. I like the fact that Macs are supposed to be real reliable.
If I feel the need for anything else, I will use the Windows computer.
Oh also, I found a program called Virtual PC that you can install on Mac and it will run some of your Win programs which will make the transition easier for you if you do decide on a Mac.
Personally, I think you should buy whatever computer you want. It is your money.
I have been looking at the G5 with the 23in display. I can get an education discount and a 300.00 rebate and that will help tremendously with my purchase.

Compatibilaty=Big problem, but there are ways around it. Mt friend has had some issues with his powerbook, but none dealing with the OS. So get an extended warranty and go with the Mac.

I would absolutely get a mac, unless your an intense gamer or use tons of Windows programs. I just use M$ Office and so it wasn't a big deal, and I got the student discount. I am big intto the music and photography thing, so it wasn't even a debatable topic. I HAD TO GET A MAC. I've been extremely happy with it since. Safari is a great browser and iChat is a great IM Client. The only thing I dislike is that iChat is not multi-protocol. Just AIM, which is ok, since I don't talk to most people on MSN anyways. But yeah, the Powerbook is an excellent Laptop and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a new PC. Come join the Mac Revolution! :p
