I was wondering if anyone knew how to host files form there own computer and if they do can they please post a link to the program they use and step by step instructions. My goal is to host downloads from my own computer and eventually make a website hosted entirely from my computer...for now.

small stable secure.
not vulnerable to microsoft exploits, will run under a multitude of platforms.
I ran a site getting 500+ megs a day traffic off abyss with an moderately active small forum.
I would advise you to consider it as an alternative to apache and miscrosoft, easier to configure and not vulnerable to some of the more traditional forms of attack.
also there is extensive help in their forums.

you could run apache server on one of your computers, or the accuall one ur working on. all you would need to do is port forward the # of ports you want to your computer and ur set.

Xitami is another very simple, fast, and stable web/ftp server. There is also a comprehensive set of instructions on the Xitami website describing how to install and configure the server.
If you're looking for something a little more feature-rich, you could check out Apache2Triad, which is a package combining Apache2, PHP, MySQL, PHPNuke, SlimFTPd, and many other useful utilities. If you're just looking to host a small website, though, it may be a little more than you need. ;)
