Discuss Default Media Player

There are some videos on the internet that I have tried to view and my default media player ( Windows Media Player ) opens but wont play the video. So, I downloaded DivX player, but it wont open the file cause Windows Media Player is still set as the default media player to open I assume. How do I change the default Media Player from Windows Media Player to DivX Player?

Just save the file, right click and select "Open With" and you'll see from there.

Will that change which program always opens though. I will try that to see if it works. Do you know a way to change it to the deafult so that it automatically uses that for everything?

Well, it did work. I got the file opened and it is playing, but now I have no sound at all on my computer so I cant even hear what they are saying on the video....geesh....so now I get to figure out what is wrong with my sound. Let me know if you know how to change the default player. Thanks.

Just check the little check box that says "Make this default for all blah blah" or whatever it says. If you have no sound, then you probably need to find another codec for the file.

first check if the fortmat file type its on windows media player tools=opcions=files type =select all
btw what type of files are you having problems with? avi? or others?

Ok very good, remember, when you need something opened, just right click the mouse and choose open with....

I have had many videos which I was unable to open no matter what program I used (and I tried a half dozen). I did some research and later realized that a lot of it has to do with what the video was encoded with. Different software has different compression ratios, etc.

In the end, I was no better off than I was in the beginning. Some of the videos still wouldnt run correctly. *sigh*.
