I use mcafee.
I dont like norton because it is a resource hog; although all anti virus are resource hogs but i think mcafee doesnt hog as much.

AVG it works and it's FREE!!!

mcafee all the way for me.
Nortons is a resorse hog. And I have seen NAV get directly attacked by virus. I had one customer where the virus UNINSTALLED NAV.
Vet is really good on compressed files, but they are about 24 behind every one else on new definitions.

These are my reccomendations, and I use all three of them.
Norton 2004, yes, it hogs all the RAM, but It will stop some things that most others cannot. It is a good Idea to run it in safe mode once a week.
Spybot S/D, Spybot will catch almost all adware and spyware, The first time I ran it, it successfully removed over 50 harmful files. It is also good for scanning the registry for adware related registry keys. It is completely free and can immunize your computer against over 500 known threats. I usually end up removing about 20 threats a week with it, and I run it daily because of the short amount of time it takes.
Trojan Gaurder, This has only one real use, eliminating trojans. It is suprising how many get past spybot and norton.
I have had only one reccuring problem in the last six months thanks to these programs. The problem in question is yet unexplained.

Nav 2004. It is a resource hog, but I haven't found anything better.

I love PC-cillin, but I am looking at F-Secure. I've seen reviews of anti-viurs software test and F secure ranks up there with the big three. If I ever find that review, I'll post the link. F secure caught more virii than any other program and it is not a system hog. The new version, AVCS is only designed for small networks though.

I always use Norton or Trend Micro.

Another thing...I had a Trojan just this week that attacked Norton. It made it completely unusable.

Been using AVG for a couple years, and it works great for me.

Have used them all and can say two things.
1.Keep whatever you use updated and surf with a security conscious mind about you
2. Avg has never let me down..Pro version

My experiences:
Norton Anti-Virus: To my experience seems to detect virus's well and takes care of them. I have used it since version 2000, on version 2004 now. Works wonders..
McaFee: To my experience and many others that asked for my help, mcafee will detect most virus's but when it comes to removal/repair it will usually do nothing. I have had many complaints like this by users. I suggest they change over to Norton and I havent heard them complain yet. That and I always had mcafee failing to load under certain conditions.
I have heard bitdefender is a great anti-virus, with many people saying its scanning engine is faster than the previous two.

You could say the same for any AV, a trojan by the name of Bionet was one of the first smart trojans. This trojan could corrupt NA, Mcafee and most firewalls.

A trojan isnt considered a virus, hence most AV programs arent tuned to detect and destroy them. You need an anti-trojan program for that. Either that or do what I do, dont open weird things...

I've used several different ones. Right now I have two that I'm using, NAV and AVG. I have been well satisfied with NAV for the last several years, and even though it may hog resources, IMO it does a far better job than McAfee. In the last month, I've used AVG and I am very impressed with it.
IMO, the top two are NAV and AVG, and not necessarily in that order when it comes to best.

No No No, i've used all of them, nothing compares to Anti Vir XP home edition. It's a small program, works just as well as Mcafee, it's free, and it comes with a program that will update the software and virus definition files. WHICH IS VERY IMPORTANT. go to http://www.free-av.com/ to get it. you won't use anything else again...

Im not so sure about using something so new. I would have to test it with something. Its easy to change the sig of a trojan, thats generally what I do to test an anti-virus program. I would also have to read quite a few reviews from good source before I would consider getting rid of NAV.

For years I trusted Norton, updating it daily and doing a complete scan at least once a week. But it let a few viruses slip in, including the deadly Blaster.Worm, and for a few months I was unaware of this, only the computer was acting very sluggishly.
Each time I scanned, Norton declared a clean bill of health. I only became aware of the Blaster.worm when I tried to use the Bluetooth gadgets.
Everytime this Blaster.worm act up, blocking my Bluetooth from function, Norton would show a notice stating it cannot delete, quarantine, or repair the file. That is obviously ridiculous. Why pay Norton when it cannot do its job.
Finally, I purchased PC-cillin from Amazon, and it immediately killed Blaster and a host of the netsky viruses.
So, PC-cillin from Trend Micro shines above the rest of the anti-virus pack.
I've gone through that hassle deep and long enough, and I now trust PC-cillin.

I have seen reviews of both pc-chillin and bitdefender and they both seem to be great, they were both tied neck to neck. I will have to try these one day. Get a company that specializes in virus's. Norton does the entire pc maintainance feild, this may explain why one of their products arent as good as a specialized companys would be.
