Os 8.5.1.

Discuss Os 8.5.1.

Is OS 8.5.1. a pretty good OS on macs, I know it's outdated but ti's all I have at the moment. But is it a pretty reliable OS? Well nothings happened yet, beside it freezing up time to time.

I used to use it and it, overall, was a pretty decent OS. OSX is obviously better and has all the newest apps, but if thats all you have its not a bad version to have.

If you can manage it, I believe 8.6 is better.

OS 9 always felt unreliable to me. Maybe that's because I only used it on a school network with about 150 computers, half of those 333 MHz iMacs, and the other half 1 GHz (a few years newer) Dell machines. Everything was bad (I'm not in that school anymore). The network was convoluted, the internet was always slow, and seemed to go down often on both systems. On the other hand, I have had no problems with the extremely limited experiences with OS 8.6. Know nothing about 8.5.1...

8.5.1 was an OS that was more compatible with Classic Macs, but 8.6 was built for the newer breed of iMac/Yosemite G3's. But the difference between 8.5.1 and 8.6 was perhaps the annoying contol bar at the bottom of the screen, or the ability to use iApps.

But for simple things like WordProcessing and Low qual. Photo editing(and I mean LOW) it's one of Apple's better OS's.

DON'T listen to these FOOOOOOLS!!!

They have not yet truly understood the truly astonishing power of Mac OS 9!
Apparently I have not...

If I ever manage to own a Mac, I'm going to be sticking with Panther for now. I see no reason to downgrade. There were only two times for that in my opinion: Windows ME and the original X (10.0) Aqua.

Good lord, i hear ya on that one. My iMac came with 9.2.2 and OS X (10.0.4) installed, and I was over excited to use X, so I started it up in X, (i love the OS X welcome music :)) and finally reached the Finder. I put all sorts of stuff in the dock and then when I went to take something out of the dock, that dang 'puff' cloud stuck on my desktop. So it was back to 9.2 for me. But then I got 10.1.5 and everything's just dandy!:)

And a funny thing about ME, I have a friend who 'upgraded' to ME and then she said she really liked it...:amazed:...But then her comp crashed and she reinstalled 98. I laughed.;)

Windows ME is so bad even Microsoft has stopped supporting it
OSX has the big advantage of no viruses being able to affect it (currently)

I can help you with getting OS 9.1 (Unless you have a G3 then 9.2) Hopefully the mods will be ok with me saying that but Mac OS 8.5 is a good OS. I have all from OS 7.6 up and I must say that I liked the original OS better than X but I agree that X is the future. I love OS X Panther but I still have a soft spot for OS 9.

As long as its through legal means i have no problem with it.

yes its legal (seeing as how it was apple that gave me the burned copy of it and I have my own actual copies from my own powerbook purchases). Anyway let me know. Its in image format for Roxio I believe I never burned the image the tech put on disc for me because I did not need it in the end (I had a Powerbook 3400 he gave it to me for but I ended up getting a iBook that day)
